While hair diffusers are more popular for women with wavy or curly hair, they can be used on straight hair to cut out frizzy flyaways, and to add more body to an otherwise basic hairstyle. Because a diffuser attachment doesn't blast heat at the hair, you get a better shape with less frizz as the diffuser dries and smooths the hair shaft. With the right brushes and products, a diffuser can do wonders to straight hair.
Step 1
Wash your hair as usual, using a good-quality conditioner to add moisture to your hair. If your hair gets oily easily, use the conditioner on just the bottom portion of your hair, keeping it away from your roots and the crown of your head.
Step 2
Towel dry your hair by blotting the water, rather than squeezing or scrubbing the hair. This will keep the hair shafts smooth so that you get a better, sleeker blowout with the diffuser attachment.
Step 3
Clip your hair up into different sections, so that you can work on one section at a time for more professional results. Begin with the undermost portion of the hair. Wind the hair around your round brush, and switch on your diffuser. Pointing the diffuser down at the brush, slowly move the brush away from your head, pulling the strands straight while pointing the diffuser downward onto them. You may need to do a few passes to dry the hair completely.
Step 4
Continue with the entire head until your hair is dry. If you have bangs, use a paddle brush to dry them. Lay them on the paddle brush, and pull them in the opposite direction of how you usually where them, while drying with the diffuser for a side fringe. Diffuse them while pulling down toward your nose for a thick, blunt fringe.
Step 5
Set the look by spraying your whole head with a setting spray, while shaking out your head. Your hair will be smooth and sleek, but not flat, as the round brush and diffuser helps add volume and body to your straight hair.
