Fruits to Use for Skin Care for Teens

Teenagers can have a difficult time keeping their skin healthy and free of blemishes. Commercial products can work well for some teenagers, but cleansers, masks and toners can get expensive. Instead of making a trip to the health and beauty store, there are several fruits that can be safely used by teenagers as part of their skin care regimen. These fruits can help to keep skin clean and soft naturally, without the use of harsh chemicals.

Bananas

Bananas are full of potassium, and can help moisturize your skin. A simple facial mask can be made at home using bananas, honey and orange juice. Mash a half of a banana in a small bowl, and add a tablespoon each of honey and orange juice. Apply this mixture to your face and leave it for at least 15 minutes. Rinse off the mixture with warm water, and your skin will be softer and will have a healthy glow. According to "Marie Claire" magazine, this fruity facial mask works well with all skin types.

Papayas

Teenagers can be prone to breakouts, which can leave an uneven skin tone. Prolonged sun exposure without UV protection can also cause leave sun spots on the face. Papaya with honey creates a soothing face mask that can help lighten the skin tone in areas with uneven pigmentation. Mix ½ cup of papaya with 2 tbsp. of honey and apply the mixture to any dark spots on your face. Rinse after 15 to 20 minutes, then moisturize as usual.

Blueberries

Another fruit that is beneficial for teenagers with an uneven skin tone is the blueberry. Rich with antioxidants and vitamins C and E, blueberries can help to moisturize your skin and repair sun damage. Mash 10 blueberries in a small bowl and add a tablespoon of plain yogurt. Apply the mixture to your face and rinse it off with warm water after 15 minutes.

Avocados

The avocado, while often thought to be a vegetable, is actually a fruit that can provide healthy moisture to your skin. Mix one mashed avocado, ½ cup of milk, and an egg yolk that has beaten until it is frothy in a small bowl. Use the mixture as a cleanser to remove dirt from the pores. Save the avocado peel; the peel contains oil that you can gently rub into your skin to leave it soft and smooth.

Strawberries

Strawberries are helpful in removing the top layer of dead skin cells from your face. This natural exfoliator can be mashed and mixed with honey to create a fragrant facial cleanser. Massage the mixture into your skin gently for about three minutes, then rinse with warm water. Fitness magazine reports that this skin scrub is gentle enough for sensitive skin, while also working as an antiseptic for oily or dry skin.
