Symptoms That Your Bladder Is Falling

A falling bladder, medically known as a cystocele or a prolapsed bladder, refers to a condition in which your bladder drops into your your vagina, says the University of Maryland Medical Center. Heavy lifting, menopause, giving birth and straining during bowel movements are some common causes of a falling bladder. Thankfully, surgery, pessary devices (device to support your bladder) and estrogen replacement therapy are available to treat cystocele symptoms.

Urinary Symptoms

According to the Mayo Clinic, you're likely to display symptoms of stress urinary incontinence when you have a falling bladder. Symptoms of stress urinary incontinence include leaking urine when you cough, sneeze or laugh. Sometimes you may lack complete control of your urine and may leak massive amounts at inappropriate times. After emptying your bladder, you may still have the urge to urinate. Tell your doctor if you suffer from these symptoms, and she can evaluate you.

Bulging

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says you may be able to feel and visualize the bulge of your bladder in your vagina. Sometimes you may have to push your bladder back into your body to properly urinate and have a bowel movement. This bulging of your bladder can especially occur when you have been standing for long periods. The Mayo Clinic says this bulging may lead to increased discomfort and pressure. Visit your physician so she can evaluate whether you need surgery or other medical treatments.

Dyspareunia

According to the Mayo Clinic, a prolapsed bladder can affect your sexual life and cause pain with intercourse. This is medically known as dyspareunia. Tell your doctor about these symptoms and she can help treat your cystocele.

Bladder Infections

The Mayo Clinic says a falling bladder can lead to repeated bladder infections. Exposing parts of it to the environment can make your bladder susceptible to numerous infections. Frequent urination, burning pain during urination and flank pain are some symptoms of bladder infections.
