Symptoms Of Urinary Tract Infections in Men

While urinary tract infections tend to be more common in women, men also suffer from them with similar symptoms. Bacterial infections can occur anywhere in the urinary system, from urethra to bladder to kidneys, with infections of the kidneys being most serious. They are usually treated with antibiotics. Symptoms from urinary tract infections in men have general symptoms and symptoms associated with specific urinary tract locations.

General Symptoms

General symptoms for urinary tract infections in men include urinary urgency and frequent, small amounts of urine produced. Mayo Clinic staff also list pain while urinating, strong smell of urine, blood in the urine and bacteria found in urine as symptoms of urinary tract infections.

Urethral Infection Symptoms

Urethral infections in men may be the least invasive, but tend to have painful burning sensations while urinating. Mayo Clinic staff say immediate medical attention at this point can keep the infection from progressing.

Bladder Infection Symptoms

Bladder infections (cystitis) tend to have symptoms of pelvic pressure, low grade fever and abdominal discomfort. Mayo Clinic staff say painful, frequent urination also accompanies bladder infections.

Kidney Infection Symptoms

Kidney infections are the most serious of the urinary tract infections in men and have symptoms of upper back pain and high fever. Mayo Clinic staff say men may also have nausea and vomiting with kidney infections.
