Burger King's Burger Shots, also called Burger Minis, are small versions of their traditional flame-broiled hamburger. Each burger mini is comprised of a burger patty made from 100 percent USDA-inspected ground beef, a slice of dill pickle and ketchup, and is served on a soft bun. They are served in packs of four.
Calories and Fat
One order of burger shots contains 420 calories and 20 g of fat, or about 31 percent of the U.S. Department of Food and Agriculture's recommendation for daily fat consumption. Of these 20 g of fat, 8 g are from saturated fat and 1 gram is from trans fat. Additionally, they contain 65 mg of cholesterol. The consumption of these types of fat is associated with an increased risk of heart disease because they increase the amount of cholesterol found in your blood.
Protein and Carbohydrates
There are 26 g of protein and 36 g of carbohydrates per serving of Burger King mini-shots, as well as 9 g of sugar. According to the USDA, the average person should consume about 50 g of protein and 300 g of carbohydrates per day. Additionally, sugar intake should be kept below 32 g of added sugar per day. Nutrition facts do not differentiate between "added" and "natural" sugar. Natural sugars are present in fruits and grains, while added sugars come from ingredients such as sucrose, corn syrup, molasses and different types of sugars.
Vitamins and Minerals
Sodium is a concern in the BK Burger shots. One serving provides 720 mg, or about 31 percent of the amount recommended for healthy individuals of non-African-American descent, according to the USDA's 2010 Dietary Guidelines. For those with a history of high blood pressure, or hypertension, or of African-American descent, sodium consumption should be kept under 1,500 mg per day.
Overall Evaluation
Burger King burger shots are not a healthy food choice, even by fast-food restaurant standards. Even though they are small, they have roughly the same nutritional content as a Whopper without sauce. If you are forced to eat at a fast-food restaurant, consider choosing instead a grilled chicken sandwich without mayonnaise or a salad prepared with grilled, non-breaded or fried chicken. Also limit your consumption of sauces and dressings because they carry extra fat and calories.
