Reflexology is a branch of complementary and alternative medicine used to relieve stress and promote self-healing. By applying pressure to specific points on the feet or hands, the recipient can experience relaxation, increased circulation and nerve transmission to the corresponding body systems. Reflexology may be used to stimulate specific organs, such as the small intestine. This procedure is non-invasive and can be completed right underneath your desk at work.

Step 1

Sit comfortably at your desk or in a firm chair at home. The seat should not elevate your knees above your hips and your feet should touch the floor.

Step 2

Place a golf ball under the arch of your left foot. Slowly push your foot forward, which will force the golf ball to roll back toward your heel. Stop when the ball is resting just past the arch, in the indented space prior the outward curve of the heel. This is the reflexology small intestine point.

Step 3

Press down on the golf ball with your left foot until you feel pressure or slight discomfort, but not pain. Release the pressure by lifting your foot slightly and repeat as tolerated.

Step 4

Switch feet and complete the same procedure on the right foot. The small intestine pressure point lies in the same region on the right foot -- just past the main arch but prior to the heel curve.

Step 5

Repeat the procedure daily to stimulate the small intestine pressure points.

Tips and Warnings

  • Roll the ball from the tips of the toes to the heel to activate more pressure points in your foot. You can use large, smooth stones rather than a golf ball, if you prefer.
  • Consult a reflexologist if you have any pre-existing illness. She can help you address multiple concerns during a session.

Things You'll Need
