Can My Husband & I Use the Same P90X Exercise Equipment?

Power-90X, often shortened to P90X, is a series of instructional DVDs that contain various exercises routines. The entirety of the P90X fitness program can be completed at home, provided you have a few key pieces of equipment. Two people can use the same equipment, but depending on the routine, they may not be able to do the exercises at the same time.

Equipment

The pieces of equipment required for P90X are: free weights ranging from 5 pounds to 70 pounds, resistance bands, a pullup bar and a yoga mat. A towel is also helpful for wiping off any excess sweat. Not all routines use all of the equipment. Optional equipment includes a heart rate monitor, yoga blocks and a body-fat tester.

Routines Requiring Little or No Equipment

Many P90X routines require no equipment or only one weight. In these routines, you can share the same equipment. These routines include "Stretch X," "Kenpo X" and "Plyometrics." Two or more people can easily perform these routines simultaneously.

Sharing Equipment

The equipment is the same for men and women, although some women may not be able to lift as much weight as men. If you find that a routine requires one person to use both weights, have one person use the weights and another person use the resistance bands. Although the resistance bands are not as effective as free weights, they still provide a workout.

Alternatives to Sharing Equipment

If two people cannot perform a routine simultaneously with the same equipment, pause the DVD while one person completes the exercise, switch off and then unpause the DVD. Alternatively, one person can complete the routine alone and then the other person can complete the routine later.
