Jump roping is a high-intensity exercise that burns fat and calories fast and tones the legs. You can burn as many calories jumping rope as you can running in the same amount of time. To add an extra challenge to your workout, use a weighted jump rope, such as the BodyFit, which comes with two 1-pound iron weight rods. The BodyFit weighted jump rope is 10 feet long, though it can be adjusted.

Step 1

Hold the handles of the BodyFit weighted jump rope and stand naturally.

Step 2

Step onto the middle of the rope and extend your arms up as far as you can. Make sure they are even in height.

Step 3

Fold the rope from the top of each side so that each end comes up to your armpits. This is the ideal rope length.

Step 4

Take a few practice jumps to make sure you are comfortable with this height.

Step 5

Use your pen or a strip of masking tape to mark the rope on both sides where the bottom edge of the handle should sit after the rope is trimmed.

Step 6

Remove the end cap on one side of the rope and pull the end of the rope through so the position you marked lines up with the bottom edge of the handle.

Step 7

Use pliers to crimp the metal fittings around the rope at your desired height and then trim the excess rope with scissors.

Step 8

Pull the jump rope back through the handle and replace the end cap.

Step 9

Repeat on the other side.
