When you're in a rush to lose weight and see results, eating a banana each morning for breakfast might sound like an effective and simple way to accomplish your goal. But when you're eating bananas as part of the three day diet, you're unlikely to see any permanent weight loss. If you must try the three day diet, talk to your doctor first.

Details

The three day diet does not have any known creators -- instead, it has been passed around the Internet as a sure way to lose weight quickly. The diet is not approved or recommended by doctors or dietitians, although it is sometimes falsely associated with medical centers and hospitals. Because the three day diet is designed to provide weight loss results in only three days, it is considered a fad diet, promising quick weight loss by eating the same very low-calorie foods for every meal.

Meal Plans

The three day diet involves eating bananas for both breakfast and dinner on day two. At breakfast, dieters eat one egg, a piece of toast, a banana and a cup of black coffee or tea. The breakfast contains approximately 238 calories and 5.45 grams of fat. For dinner, dieters eat two hot dogs without a bun, a banana, 1 cup cabbage, 1/2 cup carrots, 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream and black tea or coffee. The dinner contains approximately 414 calories and 11.6 grams of fat.

Results

The three day diet is a restricted calorie diet that might cause weight loss, especially if you follow it exactly. The food combinations in the diet are purported to have fat-burning properties, but this is a myth. Instead, the low-calorie diet starves the body, causing water weight loss. After you return to your typical diet, you are likely to gain any weight you lost back again.

Healthy Weight Loss

Instead of focusing on a fad diet that provides unsustainable weight loss results, stick with a diet of whole grains, lean protein and fresh fruits and vegetables in moderation. Including bananas in your diet plan is nutritious, as long as you're getting adequate calories and eating a variety of foods. Add in a daily exercise routine to burn extra calories and keep the weight off in the long term.
