Vitamin B12 is one of eight B vitamins. It is water-soluble, which means your body cannot store excess amounts and releases it through your urine. As a result, you need to consistently bring this nutrient into your body. Although vitamin B12 can affect the body in several different ways, bladder function is not one of them.
General Use
Vitamin B12 is sometimes given as a supplement to treat a number of conditions. B12, as well as other B vitamins, can reduce the risk of developing heart disease and/or a stroke. The supplement can also treat fatigue related to a B12 deficiency. People who eat diets high in B12 are less likely to develop breast cancer, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. B12 may also be able to improve sperm counts, sperm mobility and asthma.
Bladder Effects
Neither an excess nor a deficiency of vitamin B12 affects bladder function, according to the Mayo Clinic and the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Other Frequent Urination Causes
Frequent urination can be triggered by many causes, none of them related to vitamin B12 or vitamins in general. According to Medline Plus, some of these causes include anxiety, urinary incontinence, an enlarged prostate, stroke or nervous system diseases, overactive bladder syndrome, medicines, prostatitis and vaginitis.
Considerations
It is very difficult to develop a deficiency in vitamin B12. However, vegetarians and vegans are at risk of this because the vitamin is only found in animal products like meat, eggs and shellfish. Talk to a doctor before taking vitamin B12 supplements. Also, there are many potential causes of an overactive bladder, so do not assign vitamin B12 as a consequential factor before talking with a doctor.
