Total Gym is a line of in-home and commercial strength training systems that use your body weight for resistance. Each model has different features and attachments. You can also buy accessories separately. The wing attachment and press up bar accessories allow you to do more exercises on your Total Gym.
Identification
Total Gym has two different versions of the press up bar. The basic bar consists of two straight handles attached together. The commercial bar consists of a long bar with a curved handle on each end. The wing attachment is a long straight bar with two foam pads on each end. A second bar with two curved handles runs parallel to the first bar. A small metal post attaches the two bars to each other.
Features
The Total Gym press up bar attaches to the top or bottom of the glide rails. Attach it to the top to do pull ups or attach it to the bottom to do presses. Use a narrow, wide or reverse grip with either press up bar. The Total Gym wing attachment also attaches to either the top or bottom of the rails. You can do the same exercises with the wing attachment as you can the press up bars. In addition, you can anchor your feet in the wing attachment and do leg curls, incline crunches and other exercises.
Compatibility
Total Gym makes over a dozen different training systems. The basic, in-home models are smaller and less expensive than the high-end, commercial grade models. The accessories are compatible with specific Total Gym models. The basic press up bar and the wing attachment are compatible with several of the in-home models, including the XL, XLS and Electra. The other press up bar is compatible with several of the commercial grade gyms, including the GTS and the Power Tower.
Cost
The press up bar and the wing attachment for the in-home gyms are less expensive than the press up bar for the commercial grade gyms. At the time of publication, the wing attachment sells for $50 and the basic press up bar sells for $70. The commercial-grade press up bar sells for $190.
