Heart Palpitations After a Big Meal

Your heart works harder after you consume a large meal. You will feel tired and lazy when consuming large amounts of food. Your blood sugar rises and your digestive system requires an increased amount work to digest the extra food. Your heart pumps harder to circulate bloodas your body receives increased volume in fluid and food. Heart palpitations occur as your heart rate increases allowing for a larger body volume.

Heart palpitations are heartbeats, which include an abnormal rhythm. Heart palpitations occur when your heart beats faster and harder when your body increases in volume. Your blood pressure will rise as your heart attempts to pump fluids thought your body.

Symptoms of Palpitations

Palpitations occur as a feeling of fluttering in your heart. Your heart feels as if it will jump out of your chest. The sensation of fluttering may occur in your throat and upper chest, causing shortness of breath. The blood flow in your body alters and the oxygen flow to your cells diminishes. All palpitations in your heart are serious and need quick treatment as palpitations increase the risk of cardiac arrest. Palpitations are an indicator of an abnormal heart rhythm. Treatment for an abnormal heart rhythm requires an immediate doctor visit or an emergency room evaluation.

Large Meal Ingredients

Consuming larger meals will cause health problems. The ingredients in your food also contribute to heart palpitations. If you drink large amounts of caffeine while eating large amounts of food, your heart will become stimulated. Your heart remains part of a system that responds to a system and reacts to chemicals inside your body. Stimulants such as caffeine increase electrical activity in your heart, causing a disruption in its normal rhythm and creating the sensation of heart palpitations.

Smaller Meals

Eating smaller meals throughout the day help prevent heart palpitations from occurring. By spreading out your meals, your body digests your food easier and absorb nutrition better.
