In some meditation traditions, the blue pearl is thought to be a visual manifestation of the higher self or human soul. The blue pearl is a small blue light in the middle of the forehead, and it can either be a subject of meditation or a vision that occurs spontaneously during meditation.

Blue Pearl Meditation

The blue pearl meditation technique is a spiritual practice in which the person meditating visualizes a small blue light or a ball of blue energy in the head. This blue pearl of energy represents the higher self or spiritual aspect of human existence. The goal of the meditation is to learn to identify yourself with this higher aspect rather than with the physical body. The ego-based lower self identifies with the material world, but the higher self symbolized by the blue pearl is thought to be capable of transcending it.

Seeing the Blue Pearl

Visualization makes use of the imagination as a tool to focus the mind on a certain point, but when you are visualizing the blue pearl you don't actually see it. Some people believe that they can actually see a blue light or blue energy when they meditate or at spiritually significant moments outside of meditation. Just as in the blue pearl meditation technique, seeing a vision of the blue pearl is believed to represent the higher self or soul.

Meditation Instructors

Swami Muktananda was an Indian yoga instructor who brought the study of Siddha Yoga to the West. According to Swami Muktananda, the appearance of the blue pearl in meditation is an indication that the spiritual energy of the person meditating has been activated. Swami Muktananda also described the blue pearl as a link to the inner or higher self. Another meditation instructor named Choa Kok Sui teaches that the blue pearl is located at the pineal gland or third eye, which is also said to be the location of the crown chakra.

Cautions

According to meditation instructor Choa Kok Sui, the blue pearl meditation technique should not be attempted by pregnant women, people who eat a lot of meat, smokers, people with high blood pressure or heart problems and people younger than 16. Although the reasons for these prohibitions are not made clear, it is generally a good idea to learn new meditation techniques under the supervision of a qualified instructor. Siddha Yoga is one of the traditions that puts a lot of emphasis on the blue pearl, so if you are interested in exploring the blue pearl meditation, a Siddha Yoga instructor may be able to help.
