What is it about meatballs that says “celebration”? Whether you’re serving turkey meatballs as an appetizer or atop a heaping platter of pasta and diced tomatoes as a main dish, your guests will know you fussed for them. After all, you took the time to roll each little clump of meat into a mouth-watering ball of flavor. Then you took the extra step of browning the meatballs in a skillet. Now it’s time to bake them so that they cook thoroughly – and then watch as the celebration begins.

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2

Arrange some sheets of paper towel on a cooling rack. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and put the meatballs on the paper towels so any grease drains from the meat.

Step 3

Spray a 13-by-9-inch or 15-by-10-inch baking dish with no-fat cooking spray.

Step 4

Arrange the turkey meatballs in a single layer in the baking dish about 1 inch part. Gently press down on the bottom of each meatball so that it rests snugly against the baking dish.

Step 5

Cover the dish with aluminum foil to keep the meatballs from drying out.

Step 6

Bake the meatballs for 15 minutes.

Step 7

Cut into one meatball to ensure that they are cooked to your liking.

Step 8

Remove the meatballs from the oven and serve. Sprinkle lightly with Italian seasoning or ground Parmesan cheese, if desired.

Tips and Warnings

  • Serve your turkey meatballs over whole-wheat pasta and a light marinara sauce. Or mix angel-hair pasta, penne pasta or mostaccioli with diced tomatoes and arrange the meatballs on top.
