While the snowboarding flip is one of the most impressive maneuvers, it's also one of the most dangerous. Losing control while airborne could send you falling headfirst towards the riding terrain. In snowboarding, there are a variety of flip variations that often involve grabs and spins. To ensure you have enough time to complete the snowboarding flip, you'll need to choose a ramp that allows you to jump at least 5 feet in the air. Transworld Snowboarding recommends using the fly out section of a half pipe ramp to learn the flipping technique.
Step 1
Wear a protective snowboard helmet when attempting inverted tricks of any kind. Approach the jump with a moderate speed to ensure you have enough time to complete the flip. Ride toward the fly out section with your non-dominant foot in the lead.
Step 2
Shift your body weight onto the rear of the snowboard while climbing the ramp wall. Lift your lead foot as you near the summit of the ramp. Extend your back leg to spring off the tail of the snowboard.
Step 3
Throw your head and shoulders backwards as you execute a vertical leap. Pull your knees towards your chest to maintain a crouched flipping stance. Hold your shoulders parallel to the snowboard while rotating the flip.
Step 4
Lower your eyes to the snow as you reach the inverted position of the snowboarding flip. Straighten your legs as you complete the full rotation of the backwards somersault. Keep the underside of your board parallel to the ground as you descend toward the snow.
Step 5
Bend your knees to absorb the landing impact of the snowboarding flip. Practice the flipping technique until you can land the maneuver on a consistent basis. Add grabs and spins to your snowboard flips to increase your bag of tricks.
