Whether you’re an avid snowboarder or just like to hit the slopes every so often, you’re going to have to learn how to deal with bumps and dips on the hill. Sometimes the bumps are made by skiers or other snowboarders, and sometimes they’re put there on purpose as moguls. If you don’t follow some basic technique guidelines for going over bumps, you may spend more time on the seat of your pants than on your feet.

Step 1

Hold your shoulders level with the snowboard at all times to increase your control.

Step 2

Maintain a straight line from your head to your toes, with no bend in the waist. Keep your body as relaxed as possible, with a slight flex in your knees top absorb shock from the bumps.

Step 3

Look ahead of you as you make your way down the hill, so you can see bumps as they approach.

Step 4

Cut sideways across the slope, and then turn directly into the bump when you decide you want to go over. Hold your arms out to help increase your balance.

Step 5

Change direction when you’re at the top of a bump, and stay straight when you’re in the little valleys in between.
