The placement of the snowboard bindings will fluctuate based on the intended riding terrain as well as your level of skill. While freestyle snowboarders opt for a centered binding position, others prefer to place their bindings closer to the tail of the board. According to the snowboard experts at REI, a setback binding placement will allow you to keep the nose of the board elevated when carving through powdered snow. Measure the placement of your bindings to ensure they meet your riding specifications.

Step 1

Measure the distance between the nose of the snowboard and your lead binding. Measure between the tail of the snowboard and your back binding to determine the distance. Compare these two measurements to find how far the bindings have been set back from the center of the board.

Step 2

Measure the distance between the two bindings to determine your stance width. Allow a friend or family member to measure the width of your shoulders. Compare these two measurements to ensure the binding placement corresponds with your physical dimensions.

Step 3

Lift the release mechanisms of your snowboard bindings to loosen the retention straps. Raise the foam foot beds of the bindings to reveal a circular base plate. Examine the notches around the base plate to determine the specific angle of the binding placement.

Step 4

Loosen and remove the mounting screws if you wish to adjust the binding placement. Lower the foot beds to conceal the binding's base plates. Align your feet over the foot beds to ensure the binding placement offers a comfortable riding stance.
