Wrestling is a sport that requires strength, speed, endurance and strategy if you hope to succeed on the mat. Different holds and throws are a major part of wrestling, and important in the course of a match to weaken your opponent and score points or a pin. The lateral drop is one wrestling move that is quick and sudden -- and ends with one wrestler on his back in a vulnerable position. It takes proper maneuvering to execute a lateral drop successfully.
Step 1
Move in close to your opponent in a standing position. Reach over his left arm near his shoulder with your left arm, and pull it to your side to perform an overhook.
Step 2
Jockey back and forth on the mat, paying attention to your opponent's weight shifting and balance.
Step 3
Step in quickly with your right foot and wrap your right arm around your opponent's lower back.
Step 4
Drop to the floor suddenly and rotate your body, pulling your opponent's left arm toward you and sending his body over your right side so he lands on his back.
Tips and Warnings
- Arch your back slightly just before you execute the throw. Practice the movement regularly so you can distinguish the subtle changes in your opponent’s balance and do the drop at the proper time. Do your overhook with your right arm on his right arm and step in with your left foot if it’s more comfortable.
