If you aren’t successfully losing stomach fat, you might wonder if there’s a trick. You can’t simply spot reduce the belly, however. To create a flatter stomach, you need to lose weight all over the body, including your stomach. Accomplish this goal by burning the most calories during workout sessions and selecting food wisely. Together, these healthy changes will help you get a flatter stomach.

Calorie Deficit

The trick to flattening your stomach is creating a calorie deficit. Set a fat loss goal. A goal of 1 to 2 lbs. weekly is safe. One pound of fat equals 3,500 calories. Therefore, to lose one pound of fat in a week, shed 500 calories daily. Discuss your desire to lose weight with your medical provider.

Circuit Training

Circuit training is a workout approach that increases your calorie burning by 30 percent, according to “Fitness” magazine. With this workout, you use cardio activity and belly toning exercises to lose fat. Start out with a belly toning exercise, like abdominal crunches. Alternate to intense cardio activity, such as jumping jacks or jogging, to burn calories. Continue to rotate between a core toning exercise and cardio activity for at least 30 minutes.

Interval Training

Another approach to shedding belly fat is interval training. With this workout, you rotate between a moderate cardio activity and intense cardio activity to increase calorie burning. For example, you might start out by walking fast for a few minutes. Then, alternate to a vigorous activity such as jogging for a few minutes. Rotate between the different intensity levels for at least 30 minutes.

Healthy Eating

Select foods with low calorie content and high volume. These foods will help you feel full on fewer calories. Mayo Clinic reports that a cup of raisins, for example, contains 434 calories, but a cup of grapes, which is high in water content, has 104 calories. Other low calorie food choices include vegetables, fruits, lean protein sources and low-fat dairy.

Special Foods

Eat foods that positively impact your metabolism. For example, salmon is high in omega-3 fatty acids. This substance creates a more efficient metabolism and helps curb food cravings, reports “Fitness” magazine. Another suitable food choice is the avocado. Rich in monounsaturated fats, avocados also help improve the metabolism. Other foods high in monounsaturated fat include nuts and olive oil.
