Learning to transfer your body weight across the snowboard deck will enable you stay balanced during aerial jumps. Regardless of the snowboarding stance you prefer, the jumping technique will remain the same. As minor falls and slide outs are a part of the learning process, novice snowboarders are recommended to practice the jumping technique on flat ground to reduce the likelihood of injury. Prior to the aerial jump, The-House recommends leaning onto your back foot to load the tail of the snowboard.
Step 1
Choose a mellow beginner slope when learning to jump. Lean toward the nose of the snowboard to increase your forward momentum. Lean back slightly as you reach a comfortable speed to keep your weight centered over the middle of the board.
Step 2
Bend your knees while maintaining a centered stance. Hold your arms parallel to the ground while preparing to jump. Lean between the heel and toe edge of your snowboard to avoid excess drag.
Step 3
Lean back to transfer the majority of your body weight onto your back foot. Lift your front foot quickly to elevate the nose of the snowboard. Extend your back leg to use the tail of the snowboard as a springboard.
Step 4
Lean forward while pulling your knees to your chest. Lean sideways if necessary to keep the underside of your snowboard parallel to the ground. Lean back as you land to prevent the nose of the board from catching in the snow.
