When switching between riding terrains, you'll need to adjust the angle or degree of your snowboard bindings. Most riders prefer to angle their front foot slightly because it offers increased edge control during hairpin turns and high-impact landings. Each binding comes with a series of mounting screws that fit into the threaded holes of the snowboard deck. Setting up the bindings yourself will allow you to save on costly maintenance bills at your local snowboarding shop. According to the snowboard specialists at REI, you'll need a No. 3 Phillips screwdriver when adjusting the degree of your lead binding.
Step 1
Lower the polyethylene bottom of your snowboard onto a flat worktable. Lift the buckles of your lead binding and loosen the retention straps. Raise the shock-absorbent footbed of the snowboard binding to reveal a circular base plate.
Step 2
Loosen and remove the four base plate screws. Remove the circular plate from the base of your front foot binding. Rotate the lead binding to the desired degree while keeping it aligned over the mounting holes.
Step 3
Place the circular plate back into its original position. Tighten the mounting screws to secure the position of your front foot binding. Lower the foam footbed over the base plate and mounting screws.
Step 4
Lay your snowboard on the ground to perform a quick fitting test. Insert your feet into your snowboarding boots and tie the laces. Place your feet into the snowboard bindings and tighten the retention straps around your boots.
Step 5
Transfer your body weight between the opposing edges of the snowboard to test the position of your lead binding. Adjust your back foot binding if necessary to ensure a comfortable riding stance.
