Exercise is essential to good health, but some individuals suffer from dizziness while performing exercises. Dizziness may indicate a more severe condition or may be caused by rapid changes in position. Some of the more severe causes include hereditary heart defect; a heart block; or sick sinus syndrome (or sinus node dysfunction). However, the root of shortness of breath and dizziness may be as simple as not consuming enough water or food.
Identification
Dizziness may be a spinning or rotating sensation, which an individual may feel in his head. This may cause loss of balance, and result in bodily damage caused by falling down. Some people have dizziness just before they are about to faint.
Diet Is Not Enough
In preparation for exercise, it is vital to eat a well-balanced diet. Eat complex carbohydrates, healthy fats and protein needed to fuel the body for training in the future. Improper diet can lead to dizziness and blood glucose concentrations during exercise. Remember to start slowly and work up slowly.
Not Consuming Enough Water
Consumption of water is very important before, during and after the workouts. It is important to remain well hydrated because of fluid loss that happens while sweating. Always have water handy, and if you exercise outside, be aware of the day. Do not perform exercises in the hottest hours of the day to avoid dizziness and possible heat exhaustion.
Fast Moves
Vertigo is a feeling that may occur without any warning. Many people get that feeling during exercise because of the rapid changes in head position. Getting up quickly from a lying-down position may cause momentary dizziness. Always stand up slowly and if the dizziness persists, be certain to seek medical advice.
Dizziness During Walking
Improper balance while walking makes working out on a treadmill or just walking around a difficult task. This condition may be caused by inner-ear problems, sensory disturbances, muscle weakness or some medications (such as anti-convulsants, sedatives and tranquilizers). If you feel uncertain about your own feet, especially while exercising, consult a doctor.
Warning
Dizziness may occur during a workout because of many different factors. If you feel dizzy during exercise along with shortness of breath, chest pain and weakness, seek medical advice. These may indicate a serious condition.
