Tempeh is a fermented soybean product. Although it is sometimes compared to tofu because both are made from soybeans, tempeh is markedly different in taste and texture. Instead of a smooth, almost creamy product, tempeh has a more substantial and chewy texture. Like tofu, tempeh can takes on the flavors around it. You can marinate tempeh before cooking it in the toaster oven to infuse it with the flavors that best complement your menu. Because tempeh does not need very much room to cook, the toaster oven has more than ample space and allows you to cook without turning on your full-sized oven.
Step 1
Slice the tempeh to the size and shape you desire.
Step 2
Place the tempeh in a shallow dish and cover it with soy sauce or the marinade of your choice.
Step 3
Marinate the tempeh for at least five minutes and as long as overnight.
Step 4
Preheat the toaster oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 5
Coat the toaster oven baking sheet with olive or vegetable oil.
Step 6
Place the tempeh on the baking sheet.
Step 7
Bake the tempeh slices for about 15 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time.
