Basketball tryouts are a time for you to show your abilities and state your case for making the team. Tryouts usually involve a large group of players vying for the same spots, so it is important that you carry yourself in a way that will make you stand out from the rest of the crowd. Coaches are skilled at identifying the players that will be a good fit for the team, so be sure to bring your best to each and every practice to make your tryout a success.

Step 1

Become a team player. Encourage the other players during drills and scrimmages, and show good sportsmanship by helping your opponent up if he falls down. Instead of showboating and making everything a one-on-one competition, pass the ball to your teammates, and try to make others look good. In the end, you will be the one the coaches notice.

Step 2

Keep a positive attitude. Whether you are asked to perform a drill you don't like, have to run sprints until you can't run anymore or things just don't go your way during games and scrimmages, keep your head up and stay positive. Coaches know that all players struggle from time to time, but great players keep their head up and make their own breaks by having a positive attitude.

Step 3

Hustle everywhere. During games and scrimmages dive on loose balls, sprint back on defense and be the first one down the floor on the fast break. Challenge yourself to be the first one done in conditioning drills. Run to get a drink while the others walk. The more you hustle, the more you will stand out. Players that work hard always have a spot on the team.
