If you're trying to follow a healthy diet but find yourself craving French fries, bake your own in the oven with carrot sticks. A whole carrot has only 25 calories, 6 grams of carbohydrates and no fat, making it an ideal choice for satisfying your French fry craving. Bake your carrot fries with olive oil for a dose of healthy fats and a rich, hearty taste. After baking, season your carrot fries with salt, pepper, cumin, curry or your other favorite spices.
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2
Wash, peel and cut the carrots. Chop off the ends, stand the carrot on the thick end and cut it down the middle. Make one horizontal cut in the middle of each half, then cut those halves in half lengthwise. This gives the carrots their French fry shape.
Step 3
Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Lay the carrots on the foil, keeping them from touching.
Step 4
Brush the carrots with olive oil using a silicone pastry brush. Use enough that the carrots are shiny but not greasy. The amount of olive oil you use will depend on how many carrots you are baking.
Step 5
Bake the carrots for 20 minutes. The edges should be golden brown when done.
Step 6
Sprinkle the baked carrots with salt, pepper and spices before serving.
