According to the research company Market Data, the United States spent up to $55 billion on weight loss and dieting products in 2007. People try on the latest dietary plans combined with various forms of exercise regimes but are still dissatisfied with the results. Raw food diets, on the other hand, have proven to be effective when it comes to weight loss with success stories such as that of Angela Stokes, making the raw foods and juices diet gain popularity. During a September 2007 interview with CNN’s Jackie Adams, Angela Stokes told of how she lost 160 pounds just by taking up the raw foods diet.

Choosing Foods

Choosing the type of foods to incorporate in a raw foods and juice diet is a key factor in ensuring the diet’s success. Avoid using fruits with high levels of natural sugars such as fructose. Such sugars form platforms for fat production in the body. According to Raw Foods Health Watch, fruits and vegetables such as celery, lemons, carrots, apples, ginger, seaweed, sprouts and powdered wheat grass are suitable for juicing and raw food diets. This is because they are low in calories and therefore do not promote weight gain.

The use of raw foods and juices as a weight-loss plan helps in reducing cravings for processed foods. Freshly-squeezed juice from fruits and vegetables keeps you full for longer therefore reducing the number of times you eat processed foods that are known to enable weight gain. This is because processed foods contain simple carbohydrates that enable weight gain.


Vitamins and other nutrients contained in raw foods are easier for your body to take in. Raw foods are easier for the body to break down and provide the body with readily absorbable nutrients such as vitamin C. Vitamin C provides the body with L carnitine that is useful when it comes to burning stored body fat and turning it into energy, causing weight loss. The raw food and juice diet not only helps you to cut down weight but also provides your body with the necessary nutrients it needs for proper functionality.

Developing a Routine

In order to have an effective raw foods diet, you need to develop a routine that works for you. Changing your eating habits can prove to be a difficult task. According to Karen Knowler, a raw food coach, it is advisable to ease into the raw food diet as opposed to starting with a 100-percent raw diet. You may want to start with one glass of freshly squeezed juice a day then work your way up to a more comfortable routine.
