Blisters on the feet can make basic tasks such as walking a pain, but they can make activities such as running unbearably painful and virtually impossible. Wearing the right shoes and socks are key to preventing blisters, while properly treating them will ensure a quick healing process. This will allow you to continue exercising while the blister heals.

Step 1

Start by washing your feet thoroughly with an antibacterial soap and warm water. Make sure all dirt and other materials are removed.

Step 2

Soak a cotton pad in rubbing alcohol to disinfect it. Wipe a sharp thin needle with the pad and then your foot. You can also use a flame to sterilize the needle.

Step 3

Push the needle into the blister slowly, trying not to remove any skin. Use a paper towel to soak any excess fluids up. Now wipe the area with rubbing alcohol one more time to kill any possible bacteria.

Step 4

Apply a bandage to the blister and leave it on for a few days. After a few days, cut away the dry skin and apply another bandage if desired. You can continue to exercise once you have drained and bandaged the blister.

Tips and Warnings

  • Visit your local specialty running shop to get a gait analysis. This will determine how you land on your foot, how long your stride is and other various aspects of running. Find the right pair of running socks. They may be thin and light to allow more air flow, or they may be thicker to provide more cushion. Apply a body lubricant to your feet before putting on socks and running. Tie your shoes tight enough so your feet don't slip around inside but not so tight that they affect circulation.
