Whether you're a musician wanting to be able to hit those high notes on your horn or you want to eliminate those unsightly wrinkles forming around your mouth, exercising the muscles around your mouth can help. As we age, stresses and environmental factors can cause our skin to sag and wrinkle, forming those "age lines". The good news is that with exercise you can help reverse these signs of aging and restore your youthful appearance.

The Kiss

It may be a good idea to perform this exercise in front of a mirror to help gauge the amount of stretching you achieve. Pucker your lips as hard as you can and hold this stretch for several seconds. Hold the pucker and push your lips as far as you can away from your face. Hold this contraction for 10-12 seconds and relax. If performed properly, this exercise can strengthen the muscle around your mouth as well as those in your cheeks.

Lip Hold

Place a small object like a popsicle stick, pencil or pen in your mouth and use only your lip muscles to hold it in place. Try to use only the muscles of your lips to keep the object sticking straight out of your mouth without moving it at all. Try to hold this position for one minute and repeat.

Lip Curl

According to the website anti-aging-skin-care-illusions.com, performing this exercise regularly will help you regain that fullness in your lips. Curl your mouth into a pucker as if you were going to kiss someone and hold this position for several seconds. From the pucker, try to roll your lips into your mouth using only the muscles of your lips. Go as far as you can when rolling your lips inward and hold for a count of 10. The website recommends you repeat this exercise 10 times.

Lower Lip Tightening

Sit down in a chair and tilt your head back to look at the ceiling. Purse your lips as tightly as possible and hold this contraction for a second. Now try to lift your lower lip up over your upper lip as far as it will go using only the muscles of your lower lip. Hold this position for five seconds and then return to the starting position looking straight ahead.
