In slope-style snowboarding, the 270 is a common trick that requires the use of a metallic rail or fiberglass funbox. This intermediate maneuver involves performing a 270-degree rotation before mounting the terrain park obstacle. According to professional snowboarder Scotty Arnold, your board should sit perpendicular on the rail or ledge during the 270 slide. Wearing a protective snowboarding helmet will help to prevent injuries in the event of a fall or slide out.
Step 1
Lower the snowboarding helmet into position and buckle the safety straps under your chin. Choose a low obstacle in the terrain park that features an inclined takeoff ramp. Ride toward the rail or ledge with your non-dominant foot in the lead position.
Step 2
Bend your knees to lower your center of gravity. Approach the rail or ledge with a moderate speed to avoid losing control during the 270 maneuver. Keep the heel edge of your snowboard parallel to the obstacle as you ascend the takeoff ramp.
Step 3
Perform a vertical leap as you reach the summit of the takeoff ramp. Throw your shoulders and arms in the direction of the spin to initiate the 270 rotation. Pull your knees to your chest as you begin to spin.
Step 4
Lower your eyes to the obstacle as you complete the 270 degree rotation. Align the underside of your snowboard perpendicular to the top of the rail or ledge. Bend your knees as the snowboard touches down.
Step 5
Hold your arms parallel to the ground throughout the 270 slide. Rotate your snowboard another 90 degrees as you drop off the end of the obstacle. Bend your knees to absorb the landing impact.
