How to Keep Your Glasses From Fogging When Running

Foggy glasses are the result of moisture condensing on the surface of the lenses. When you run outside in cold weather, your glasses are closer to the air temperature than your body temperature. At the same time, your body is heating up and that heat is radiating off your body in the form of moisture. When the warm moisture makes contact with your glasses, they fog. You cannot completely eliminate fogging but you can take steps to reduce it.

Step 1

Wipe your glasses with the lint-free eyeglass cloths to remove any dust or debris. The anti-fog spray works best on a clean surface.

Step 2

Apply the anti-fog spray according to the manufacturer’s directions. Some manufacturers have you apply the product directly to the glass while others suggest putting the product on a cloth first.

Step 3

Rub the product into each lens to ensure even coverage. Use a dry eyeglass cloth to remove any excess residue.

Tips and Warnings

  • Only use products specified for prescription glasses. Other products and remedies, such as soap, toothpaste or shaving cream, could irritate your eyes or damage the surface of your lenses. If you are an avid runner, consider getting prescription glasses with a built-in anti-fog coating or wear contact lenses, which will not fog.

Things You'll Need
