Rainbow Light, manufacturer of the ThinBerry Diet and Cleanse over-the-counter weight loss supplement, claims its product helps you shed unwanted pounds by controlling your appetite and helping you burn excess fat. This program's three-step system removes bodily toxins, supports healthy weight loss and revitalizes your health in just seven days, according to the diet's website.
Theory
Rainbow Light claims that the program's active ingredient, green coffee extract, also known as svetol, initiates weight loss while its fiber and fruit powders assist proper digestion. Furthermore, the company purports that its nighttime component, PM Purify, detoxifies your liver and helps you achieve a morning bowel movement, according to Diet Spotlight.
Methodology
To follow the diet and cleanse program, take one ThinBerry Diet tablet 30 minutes before lunch and dinner. Stir one packet of Daily Fruit & Fiber into one glass of juice or water. Drink the mixture 30 minutes before your breakfast, lunch or dinner meal. Then, drink a 6- to 8-ounce glass of water after you consume the fiber and fruit blend to help your body better absorb the thick, fibrous ingredients. Finally, take three PM Purify capsules after dinner. If you do not have a bowel movement in the morning, take one to two more PM Purify capsules before breakfast to help you achieve a bowel movement throughout the day.
Considerations
No independent data resulting from certified U.S. medical research teams exists to validate Rainbow Light's claims on the effectiveness of the ThinBerry Diet and Cleanse. Although, in a study published in the August 2010 edition of the “Gastroenterol Research and Practice,” researchers found that svetol, or green coffee extract, consumption, when compared with placebo ingestion, initiated a significant decrease in body weight in three separate independent trials. However, the researchers admitted that biases existed in all three trials and concluded that more research was needed to accurately determine green coffee extract's weight loss-initiating potential.
Expert Insight
Although Drugs.com does not list any adverse reactions with additional ThinBerry Diet and Cleanse ingredient stevia, the prescription and over-the-counter medication and herbal information site notes that another ingredient, Cascara sagrada, found in PM Purify, can cause swelling of the mouth, stomach upset, rectal bleeding and difficulty breathing.
Warning
Speak with your doctor about the pros and cons of the ThinBerry Diet and Cleanse before you begin the program. Your doctor might recommend that you follow another diet that incorporates daily exercise with freshly prepared, portion-controlled meals to help you shed unwanted pounds.
