Baking a potato requires little preparation. You can get an excellent baked potato if you do it properly. Baking a Yukon gold potato is as simple as heating it uncovered in an oven until it is tender. Firm Yukon gold potatoes are suitable candidates for baking, but their hard flesh has to be cooked longer than softer varieties. They have a rich yellow color and taste good with a little butter or sour cream. They take over an hour to prepare but no special tools or techniques are needed.
Step 1
Wash the skin of your Yukon gold potatoes until all of the dirt has been removed. You may need to scrub them with a rag to get rid of some of the more stubborn dirt patches.
Step 2
Poke several medium sized holes in the skin of the potatoes using a small knife.
Step 3
Slice up four tablespoons of fresh chives.
Step 4
Set an oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, and put the potatoes on the rack. Don’t wait for the oven to preheat before putting the potatoes in, or they will overcook.
Step 5
Allow the potatoes to cook for around one hour, or until they are tender to the touch.
Step 6
Remove them from the oven, and serve with butter, sour cream and the chives.
