Playing college hockey can be a dream come true for young hockey players. When you play high school hockey at a high level, you have a chance to earn a scholarship to play at the next level. College hockey coaches and pro scouts find the true superstars, but good players who are still developing may have to reach out to coaches to get full consideration for a scholarship.

Step 1

Prepare a resume that you can present to a college coach for consideration. Include your hockey history and all your accomplishments and statistical achievements. Send it with a DVD that demonstrates your strengths on the ice and a letter of recommendation from your coach.

Step 2

Compete in postseason tournaments. If you are the type of player worthy of consideration for a college scholarship, you will have the opportunity to compete against other high-level high school and junior-level players. College coaches go to these tournaments to look for talented players.

Step 3

Go to hockey camps during the summer both to build your skills and to meet college assistant coaches, who often teach at camps. These assistants report back to their head coaches and let them know who the best players are.

Step 4

Put effort into get your grades as high as you can. Hockey players have to have a minimum grade-point average of at least 2.00, an ACT score of 18 and an SAT score of 820. They take either the ACT or SAT, not both.
