The Fat Flush Plan diet was created by Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman, who claims there are many benefits from following her program. The diet is outlined in Gittleman's book and includes tips and recipes that help you along the way. The Fat Flush Plan diet may not be right for everyone, so be sure to talk with your doctor before beginning the program.

Cleansing

The Fat Flush Plan is marketed as a cleansing and detox diet, which means that it increases your liver function. This is supposed to improve your health and help you lose weight by balancing your nutrient intake. Many cleansing programs are not healthy, but the Fat Flush Plan focuses on eating nutritious foods to clean out your liver, setting you up for lifestyle choices that are conducive to weight loss. However, you should discuss a cleansing program with your doctor because it may not be right for everyone, particularly those with health complications.

Nutrition

Following the Fat Flush Plan diet means eating a variety of healthy foods that balance your carbohydrate, protein and healthy fat intake. Once you complete the initial two-week introductory phase, the range of foods you are allowed to eat is relatively wide. They include staples such as apple cider vinegar and cranberry juice. Also included are fruits and vegetables, protein foods and herbs and spices. Gittleman also recommends drinking plenty of water each day, which aids in detox and cleansing.

Exercise

Part of any good weight loss program is exercise because it revs metabolism, burns calories and keeps you healthy. Gittleman recommends 20 to 40 minutes of exercise each day, most often low-impact activities such as walking. She also advises strength training twice per week. Choosing exercise that you enjoy increases motivation and improves the chance that you will stick with it. Healthy eating and exercise are powerful tools that Gittleman claims will help you make other lifestyle choices that improve health and promote weight loss.

Conditions

Gittleman created several versions of the Fat Flush Plan diet that are targeted for a variety of health concerns, including detoxing, aging, women's health, men's health, menopause and environmental health. Each variation includes supplements to support the health goals. Always discuss the use of these products with a doctor because some may interfere with medications or exacerbate health conditions.
