Mac and cheese with a bread crumb crust is a creamy casserole dish commonly served for dinner. The bread crumb crust is crispy and complements the soft noodles and gooey, melted cheese. Any kind of shredded cheese can be used, but sharp cheddar is typical. Select a favorite type of seasoned bread crumbs to customize the crunchy topping.

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2

Layer half of the cooked elbow macaroni onto the greased baking dish. Drizzle half of the butter or butter substitute over the noodles.

Step 3

Sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese and half of the jack cheese in an even layer over the macaroni. Repeat the layering process with the remaining macaroni, butter and cheeses.

Step 4

Pour the milk over the contents of the baking pan, then sprinkle the bread crumbs over the top in an even layer.

Step 5

Bake the mac and cheese with bread crumb crust for 45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Allow the mac and cheese to cool for five minutes before serving.
