Sideslipping is an effective snowboarding exercise that helps to improve your edge awareness and board control. Going straight after practicing the sideslipping technique will allow you to regain any lost momentum. According to ABC-of-Snowboarding, the sideslipping technique involves riding down the mountain with your snowboard in a horizontal position. Choosing a groomed snowboarding slope will help to prevent you from catching an edge while straightening out the sideslip. Wear a protective snowboard helmet to prevent injuries during accidental falls.

Step 1

Lower a snowboarding helmet onto your head before practicing the sideslipping technique. Buckle the safety straps under your chin to hold the helmet in place. Slide forward with your snowboard horizontal to initiate the sideslip.

Step 2

Glance over your shoulder before straightening the board to ensure the coast is clear. Rotate your snowboard a quick 90 degrees to point your nondominant foot down the mountain slope. Shift your body weight toward the back of the board while riding straight down the hill.

Step 3

Lift your front foot slightly to keep the nose of your snowboard elevated. Bend your knees to a 45-degree angle to lower your center of gravity. Hold your arms parallel to the ground to increase the stability of your forward riding stance.

Step 4

Shift your body weight between your heels and toes to prevent the underside of the board from dragging across the snow. Rotate your snowboard back to a horizontal position to regain a sideslipping stance. Practice these snowboarding exercises to improve your balance and maneuverability.
