Cooking poached eggs so that they retain their quality requires skill. However, with a food steamer, it is easier to poach your eggs to perfection. Always use fresh eggs for poaching. Do not start poaching eggs removed from the refrigerator. To cook well, eggs must be at room temperature; it will take at least two hours to thaw refrigerated eggs. Food steamers are useful for poaching eggs because, to cook the best poached eggs, you need to first boil the water and then turn down the heat and bring it to a simmer.
Step 1
Pour 2 cups of water into the main bowl of the food steamer. Add ½ cup of water to the reservoir.
Step 2
Set the food steamer to heat the water in the reservoir for 10 to 12 minutes and steam the water in the main compartment.
Step 3
Remove the reservoir and refill with ½ cup of water.
Step 4
Crack each egg and spill the contents into a small bowl. Place the bowls over the hot water in the main compartment. There should be space for at least four bowls, but your food steamer's size will determine how many eggs you can poach at once.
Step 5
Close the steamer and steam the eggs for another 10 to 12 minutes or until the whites set. Gently remove the poached eggs with a slotted spoon and serve.
