Like a writer struggling to find just the write word or phrase, some men tirelessly search for the one, perfect pill that will bring them the consummate sexual experience. The dietary supplement Ogoplex is claimed to give men a more intense and pleasurable orgasm by increasing the number of ejaculatory contractions during the orgasm and increasing the amount of semen ejected. Ogoplex's power is said to come from the "Ogoplex Proprietary Blend." Neither the ingredients in Ogoplex nor its marketer's claims have bee approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Talk with your physician about your options before you take Ogoplex to enhance your sexual performance.
Swedish Flower Pollen Extract
The primary ingredient in "Ogoplex Proprietary Blend" is Swedish Flower Pollen Extract. Pollen is the plant version of animal sperm. While Ogoplex labeling does not mention the specific flowers its pollen comes from, a herbal prostate remedy from another manufacturer lists the source of its Swedish flower pollen as Secale cereale, or the cereal grain rye. Since humans can not digest pollen, Swedish Flower Pollen has been processed to release its nutrients and remove any indigestible or potentially toxic substances.
Prostate Related Ingredients
Swedish Flower Pollen Extract has been used effectively as a treatment for prostatitis and enlarged prostate. A 1996 double-blind study published in "International Urology and Nephrology" found that Cernilton -- a rye grass flower pollen extract --- was more effective than placebo in treating subjects with benign prostatic hyperplasia or enlarged prostate. Researchers in another study of Cernilton published in the journal "European Urology" in 2009 found it more effective than placebo in treating non-bacterial prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome.
It would seem that the mix of ingredients in Ogoplex seems more geared to prostate health than male sexual performance enhancement. Ogoplex contains 15 milligrams of zinc. According to the National Institutes of Health website, "MedlinePlus," zinc has been used to treat enlarged prostate glands, male infertility and erectile dysfunction. There is no evidence, however, of zinc's effectiveness for any of these conditions. Ogoplex also contains beta-sistosterol and saw palmetto berry. Both of these ingredients have been shown to be effective in treating enlarged prostate glands or benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Antioxidant Lycopene
Ogoplex contains the antioxidant derived from tomatoes called lycopene. Antioxidants help prevent the damage to your body from free radicals which can disrupt your body chemistry, destroy tissue and alter genetic material. Lycopene has also been tried as a prostate cancer treatment. According to "MedlinePlus," however, there is "insufficient evidence to rate effectiveness for" lycopene in prostate cancer therapy.
Inactive Ingredients
Ogoplex contains many ingredients that have no therapeutic or nutritional value, but are essential to the tablet-making process. Ogoplex tablets have a film coating made of dextrin, dextrose, lecithin, sodium carboxymethylcellulose and sodium citrate. Other ingredients in Ogoplex tablets help to bind the active ingredients together until you swallow them. Other ingredients ensure that once swallowed, the tablets will break up and disintegrate when they reach your stomach. Ogoplex tablet ingredients include dicalcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscamellose sodium, stearic acid, magnesium stearate and silica.
