Headquartered in Forked River, N.J., Mrs. Walker's Famous Homemade Ice Cream stores have been serving premium ice cream since 1986. The company's vanilla ice cream is popular not only in cones, but as the basis for other frozen desserts as well. The ingredients used combine to produce a smooth, rich ice cream.

Dairy Ingredients

Ice cream isn't ice cream without real dairy products, and in Mrs. Walker's vanilla ice cream, the dairy component is supplied by cream, milk and nonfat dry milk. The ice cream contains 16- to 17-percent butterfat, a percentage that is high enough for the product to be considered a premium brand.

Sweeteners

Mrs. Walker's uses sugar and corn sweetener in its vanilla ice cream mixture.

Flavoring

As you'd expect in a premium ice cream, Mrs. Walker's vanilla ice cream is flavored with real vanilla extract.

Other Ingredients

Carrageenan, a natural product derived from moss or algae, is used to thicken the ice cream mixture. Emulsifiers, which enhance the product's creaminess by preventing the formation of ice crystals, include mono and diglycerides and polysorbate 80. Sugar gum, locust bean gum and cellulose gum are all naturally derived stabilizers and thickeners, and calcium sulfate is a natural desiccant, which makes the ice cream firmer.
