Bisquick is a quick and convenient baking mix that you can use for all types of sweet and savory dishes. You can use it to make casseroles, pancakes, pie crusts, biscuits and other items. Bisquick Italian bake dishes are similar to traditional-recipe pizzas, lasagnas and casseroles, but use Bisquick baking mix to replace pasta or plain flour. General Mills first created the original Bisquick mix in 1931.
The Basics
Original Bisquick baking mix contains bleached flour, hydrogenated soybean or cottonseed oil, leavening, dextrose and salt. In addition to the Original Bisquick baking mix, General Mills has developed a lower-fat Bisquick product. Heart Smart Bisquick contains canola oil instead of hydrogenated vegetable oil, so the mix is trans-fat free. Sugar, cornstarch, DATEM, and tricalcium phosphate are also added to the baking mix for better texture and flavor.
