Full-body workouts are a common part of a bodybuilder's workout routine. While the routine itself may vary, most bodybuilders focus on sculpting and strengthening their entire body. In addition, cardio training and proper diet are often combined with full-body workout routines to help maximize the bodybuilder's fitness level. Several notable bodybuilders have used full-body workout routines in some stages of their careers.
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arguably the most famous bodybuilder, one of the workout routines Schwarzenegger adhered to was the StrongLifts 5x5 created by Reg Park. This full-body workout routine focuses on heavy lifting for all major muscle groups. In addition, the workout can be performed as little as three times a week, for 45 minutes per day while exercising. The workout routine forces you to perform five sets of five at a high weight level. Exercises include squats, bench presses, barbell rows, overhead presses and deadlifts.
Leo Wilson
Leo Wilson is an amateur bodybuilder who uses full-body split workout routines, spreading his lifting out over the course of three days, repeating this exercise set twice in a week and leaving Sundays off to rest. During the first day of this routine, you will work out your chest, calves and abs in addition to 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise. On day two you will work on your quadriceps, hamstrings, shoulders and abs followed by an additional 20 minutes of cardiovascular work. On the final day, you should work your back, core and triceps.
Mike Packham
Mike Packham is a senior bodybuilder who works out using a variety of full-body workout routines that allow him to maintain a skinny frame while building lean muscle on top of it. On day one of his six-day workout routine, he combines super sets of tricep extensions and dumbbell sides with regular sets of decline and incline bench presses. On the following days, you will have to work on your cardiovascular health and core as well as your legs. On the final day of the workout, crunches and hanging situps are combined with bridge raises to further strengthen your core.
Dave Draper
Dave Draper is a professional bodybuilder and has one title as Mr. America, Mr. World and Mr. Universe. For his full-body workout, the workout should be performed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, leaving days in between for rest and cardiovascular exercising. During each day, performing two sets of 12 dumbbell chest presses and cable crossovers will strengthen your chest. To strengthen your back, wide-grip pulldowns and seated lat rows will give your back definition and tone. Dumbbell shoulder presses and barbell curls will help round out your workout. For your legs, leg presses and calf raises will help keep your entire body balanced.
