Jump-rope games for special-needs adults are designed to be entertaining, as well as socially engaging. In addition to the fun aspect of these games, jump-rope games will also improve cardiovascular health and endurance, helping you or your loved one stay in decent physical shape. Jump-rope games for special-needs adults are the same as many children's jump-rope activities.
Singles Game
This basic singles game rewards individuals for consistency and endurance. Give each special-needs adult in your group an individual jump rope. On your mark, instruct them to begin jumping rope. The goal is for each player to try and perform as many rotations as possible without tripping up or losing the rhythm of the game. The player with the most consecutive jumps without stopping or tripping up wins the singles game. Have several assistants count each player's jumps to keep an accurate score.
Large Rope Game
This large rope game is designed to get your special-needs adults to work as a team to jump over the rope successfully. Stand at one end of a large rope, with a partner holding the other end. Have three special-needs adults stand in the middle while facing one direction. Begin turning the rope with your partner, slowly bringing it around. As you do so, instruct the adults to jump simultaneously over the rope. Perform 10 rotations, each time rotating the rope faster. Give the team a point for every successful rotation. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Two-in-One Rope
This jump-rope game will entertain your special-needs adults, as well as help them work on communication skills. Have one adult grab a partner, facing the partner while holding the ends of a large jump rope in each hand. From here, have him perform a basic rope jump, instructing the player facing him to jump at the same time to get over the rope. Each time the rope is near their feet, have the jumper with the rope yell out "jump" to notify the other player it is time to jump. Have them jump for as long as they can.
Rope Hop
The rope-hop game will improve special-needs adults' ability to jump from side to side. Place a long jump rope flat on the ground in a straight line. Have a group of special-needs adults line up in a line at one end of the rope. On your whistle, have the first person in line hop from side to side, over each side of the rope. Have him continue to hop in this fashion until he gets to the end of the rope. Continue this game until everyone in line has had a turn.
