1. Skip the Fish
By now most of us have heard that cold water fish is an excellent source of healthy Omega-3. We also know that Omega-3 oils are sold as supplements, and it's recommended that we take one every day. But if you're not into fish or supplements, there's another way to get your Omega-3 and the protein you need by preparing delicious Omega-3 protein drinks. Omega-3 haw been shown to be helpful for people with depression, fatigue, Type 2 diabetes and joint pain. Consuming more Omega-3 will also help to combat brittle hair and nails, dry itchy skin, and even make you more alert and increase your ability to concentrate.
2. Grind Up Some Flaxseed
To prepare your kitchen, buy some flaxseed and a grinder. Perhaps you already have a grinder that you use for coffee beans--if so, just make sure to clean it carefully so your flaxseed doesn't taste like coffee. Flaxseed is rich in Omega-3--in fact, they contain more Omega-3 than any other food. You can easily add them to protein drinks that you make with some protein powder, yogurt, milk and fresh fruit.
3. Splurge on the Omega-3 Rich Eggs
Buy Omega-3 rich eggs and add one to your smoothie. Omega-3 eggs come from hens who are fed flaxseed. You will find them in most grocery stores; they cost a little more, but they are worth it because of the extra nutrition.
4. Throw in Some Walnuts
Put some walnuts in your blender when you're mixing up a protein shake. Walnuts are another good source of Omega-3, and they add a delicious nutty flavor to most fruit shakes. Dark green vegetables also contain Omega-3, so if you're a fan of vegetable juices, you can put them in a juicer alone or mix them with a fruit like apples for a healthy drink. Although vegetables contain some protein, you'll get a lot more if you add in a teaspoon of protein powder.
5. Choose Your Milk Carefully
Soy milk has more Omega-3 than regular milk, so use it as a substitute for regular milk when you're making a shake. Organic milk has more Omega-3 than non-organic milk because of the feed that the cows live on. The best fruits to add to your shake are strawberries and raspberries. They don't compare to flaxseed in terms of Omega-3, but they do contain them and have other health benefits.
