It’s possible to lose weight eating mainly broccoli and fiber cereal if you’re consuming less calories than you’re burning in a day. However, any time you want to begin a new weight loss diet, talk with your doctor about the benefits and risks of the diet. Weight loss should include a well-balanced diet and regular exercise, according to the Centers of Disease Control and Disease.

Broccoli and Fiber Cereal

Broccoli is a vegetable that’s high in fiber, low in fat, low in calories, rich in vitamins and minerals. Fiber cereals may contain various ingredients and different amounts of calories per serving. Foods that are high in fiber help to make you feel full longer because fiber swells in your digestive tract and takes longer to digest. Fiber is the portion of foods that the body cannot digest. It also helps to soften stools and allows stool to move through the colon faster. However, eating primarily broccoli and fiber cereal may lead to increased gas, abdominal cramping and bloating, according to MedlinePlus.

Healthy Weight Loss

According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, every 500 calories that you remove from your diet on a consistent basis will help you lose 1 lb per week. Before staring your diet, write down everything you eat and drink, along with its caloric value in your day for one week. At then end of the week, add up the calories you ate that week and divide by seven to determine your daily average calorie intake. Write down your goal of how much weight you want to lose and how long you think it should take you. Discuss your goals with your doctor. Losing 1 to 2 lbs weekly is considered healthy weight loss.

Exercise

Eating broccoli and fiber cereal can help you lose weight, but implementing a regular exercise program can help you reach your desired goal faster. MayoClinic.com recommends participating in moderate activity at least 150 minutes a week, or 30 minutes a day for five days.

Fiber Considerations

If you have a chronic digestive condition such as irritable bowel syndrome or Crohn’s disease, you should not participate in a broccoli and fiber cereal diet. Eating too much fiber can cause diarrhea and may interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals. If you experience rapid weight loss while eating primarily broccoli and fiber cereal, call your doctor.
