The Silhouette Solution diet plan is a high-protein, low-carb diet plan designed by naturopathic doctor David Macallan and marketed by IdealHealth, a branch of the Trump Network. This diet, which requires a very large initial cash outlay, is also a multi-level marketing program which allows you to "sell" your friends on the program to make money.

Costs

This program sells you a two-month supply of foods equaling five small snacks a day. Your one real meal per day is not included in the plan's cost. This costs $1,325.00, according to DietSpotlight. The company website does not list the exact amount; you need to call for updated pricing. The company claims that the average American spends $34 on food per day, although the Bureau of Labor Statistics quotes $16.74 as the amount an average American actually spent each day on food in 2010, including dinner.

Meals

The Silhouette Solution diet features five small meals and one regular meal per day. However, the provided foods do not include your dinner, just the five snacks, which the company calls "staples." The snack, which you consume every two to three hours, equals between 110 and 130 calories and between 8 and 14 grams of carbohydrate. For dinner, the website suggests a serving of low-fat protein and vegetables. The snacks include soups, protein bars, crunch snack foods and shakes.

Multivitamins

The Silhouette Solution website suggests individual testing, which the company also sells, to determine your nutritional deficiencies and offers custom multivitamins to meet the nutritional deficits they uncover. The website quotes a June 2002 article published in "JAMA" by researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital as suggesting "in no uncertain terms" that Americans need supplements to stay healthy. What the article does say is that the elderly, alcoholics, people with malabsorption issues and vegans are more likely to develop nutritional deficiencies and that both deficiencies and excess supplementation can cause health problems.

Considerations

The Ideal Health website also offers the opportunity to participate in a multi-tiered commission plan -- another name for multi-level marketing. If you buy these snack foods for a large sum of money and sell your friends on selling them to their friends, you earn a commission on each sale.
