PE aerobics are aerobic exercises, activities and games that are executed within the structure of a physical education course. Aerobic exercises are often defined as low-intensity, long-duration cardio exercises that will help you burn calories and improve your overall fitness level. PE aerobics classes range from dance aerobics to floor hockey games.

PE Lesson Plans

Following the class's specific lesson plan will help you stay focused and engaged with a specific goal in mind during your physical education course. While aerobic lesson plans vary from jump rope exercises to basketball games, a basic walk/run routine will introduce you to aerobics as well as help you learn how to socialize with a partner.
Grab four cones, placing them 30 yards apart from each other in a square formation, then pick a partner. On your coach's whistle, walk, run or jog around the square boundary with your partner. As you move, try talking to one another, engaging in class topics or any other social conversation. Conversing will keep your mind off exercise while helping you build social skills. Continue to move, varying your speed depending on your coach's instructions.

Specific Classes

One option is to take an entire physical education course that focuses on one type of aerobics. For example, indoor cycling is an aerobic exercise that can be taught as a physical education course. In this course students will study the history of cycling as well as test out the various riding techniques and styles that have become popular in recent decades. Other specific aerobics classes include cross training, deep water running, aerobic swimming and aerobic power walking.

Physical Benefits

In addition to teaching you proper techniques and the history of the aerobics you are performing, a regular physical education aerobics course will help improve your physical fitness level. According to The Mayo Clinic, aerobic exercise will improve blood flow as well as help you burn calories. In addition to helping you lose weight, aerobics will help improve your coordination and reduce such health risks as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Caution

While physical education aerobic courses have many benefits, it is important to talk to your doctor first to make sure you are healthy enough for aerobic activity. If you have not exercised in a long time, starting with a simple aerobic exercise, such as walking or jogging, will help you minimize the risk of injury or fatigue in your PE class. In addition, stretching for 10 minutes before and after your aerobics course will help you reduce your chances of pulling or straining a muscle.
