Morphea profunda is a rare type of morphea, an autoimmune disorder also known as subcutaneous morphea. This condition is marked by deep slerotic plagues, deeper in the skin than other forms of morphea, identified by red and purple patches on the skin. MayoClinic.com reports that this condition can be treated with antimalarial medications, corticosteroids and immunosuppressive medications. Vitamins that aid in repairing the skin, such as vitamin D, can also benefit this condition.
Step 1
Discuss any mineral and vitamin therapy for morphea profunda with your doctor. Many vitamins and minerals interact with medications or have side effects that might make your condition worse.
Step 2
Apply topical synthetic vitamin D medication, calcipotriene cream, to the affected area. Alternatively, take 1,000 to 4,000 IU of vitamin D oral supplements daily.
Step 3
Take 200 to 1,200 IU of vitamin E oral supplements per day and apply a vitamin E topical ointment.
Step 4
Take oral supplements of 15 to 60 mg of zinc supplements daily.
Step 5
Take an oral dose of 1 to 4 mg of copper supplements per day.
