The Paragon Training Center is a 20,930-square-foot fitness facility in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It was built in 1993 to provide a state-of-the-art gymnastics facility for children in the Fredericksburg area. The mission of the center is to help build self-esteem and physical awareness in children. In addition to fitness and gymnastics courses, the Paragon Training Center features two rock walls and beginning rock climbing classes.

The Facility

The Paragon Training Center features two rock walls that extend almost to the ceiling of the facility. The walls have a permanent belaying system in place as well as other gear available for the climbers. You can pay a monthly membership fee and climb whenever the center is open as long as a class is not taking place. Because class schedules vary by season, call ahead to obtain a class schedule to ensure that you will be able to climb.

Rock Climbing Courses

The Paragon Training Center offers rock climbing courses for beginners, including specialized courses for home-schooled children. These courses teach the basic skills of rock-climbing such as anchoring ropes, tying knots and belaying, according to the Paragon Gymnastics website. The rock climbing wall is available for school field trips as well as other organized groups. Call ahead to register for an existing rock climbing course or to schedule a private lesson for yourself or for a group.

Using the Rock Climbing Wall

Any visitor older than age 6 can use the rock climbing walls at the Paragon Training Center, but you must sign a release form before you use the rock wall or any of the other features of the facility. The Paragon provides the ropes and gear, but if you get certified by one of the Paragon's rock-climbing instructors, you can use your own gear or free-climb at your own risk. Horseplay on the wall is strictly prohibited for your safety and that of others.

Other Activities

The Paragon Training Center also provides other courses for children. The Paragon is primarily a gymnastics facility. The Paragon has a variety of courses from toddler classes to advances gymnastics, and the classes are separated by sex. In addition to the gymnastics courses, the Paragon offers a variety of dance classes, including ballroom dance, hip-hop, ballet, tap and modern dance. The dance classes are organized according to age and skill level.
