Reiki and reconnective healing are forms of healing energy work. Both techniques work to heal mind, body and spirit by correcting imbalances that cause disease, enhancing spiritual growth and clearing and loosening blocked body energy and negative emotional patterns. Although both methods of energy healing work toward personal enlightenment, there are several differences between the two systems.

Origin

Reiki is an ancient form of energy healing. Mikao Usui of Japan developed one well-known school of reiki practiced in the United States today in the early 1900s. It is based on the belief that an energy force flows through each of us, resulting in a state known as being alive. Low energy forces contribute to illness and stress, while high energy forces add to happiness and good health.
Reconnective healing is a healing system discovered more recently than the reiki system. Dr. Eric Pearl, a Los Angeles chiropractor, introduced it to the world. It is a system whose goal is to reconnect each of us to the universe and our own essence. Both systems may be performed in person or via a distance.

Method

In a reconnective healing session, you lie or sit on a comfortable surface, fully clothed, in a quiet place with your eyes closed. A receptive state of mind is required. The practitioner uses his hands, in a non-touch method, to access and work with your energy frequencies in the space around your body.
During a reiki treatment you also lie or sit on a comfortable surface, fully clothed, in a quiet place. However, reiki treatments may use a gentle, non-intrusive touch. The reiki practitioner places her hands lightly on or above your body and makes no attempt to control your energy or change the electromagnetic energy field, known as the biofield, surrounding your body as she works with your energy fields. The practitioner's hands remain still for most or all of the treatment. The practitoner uses symbols to create thoughts that help clients attune themselves to a higher vibrational healing energy, which is the reason reiki is considered a form of self-healing.

Healing Spectrum

Reiki and reconnective healing are both systems of vibrational medicine, which use energy in various forms and frequencies. Reiki works with the unseen energy forces in and around the body, while reconnective healing is thought to be a new level of healing, which includes not only electromagnetic energy forces, but extends to also include the effect of light waves and their influence on cell health. The thought behind this type of treatment is, since the body heals through frequency, vibration and resonance, which is communicated through light, when we are ill, the light waves responsible for the photorepair of cells are blocked or scrambled so that they no longer work correctly. For example, cancer may be the result of carcinogens that may block or play havoc with regenerative light waves.

Results

In both reiki and reconnective healing, experiences and results are unique and specific to each person. However, in both systems, deep levels of relaxation are often reported. Pain relief is commonly mentioned. In reconnective healing, visions, lights, colors and sounds not previously experienced, along with a higher level of conscious awareness, are sometimes reported.
