Reiki is a form of holistic healing. It is not a sure-fire cure for pink eye, but Reiki methods may be used to treat the common eye infection. Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is most often caused by a virus, infection or allergy, and is highly contagious. To cure pink eye, some Reiki practitioners will have you sit in a chair or lie on a couch for a treatment that can last an hour or longer. Even though the eye is the targeted area, one form of Reiki treatment includes the entire body. This method derives from the idea that an ailment such as pink eye is related to the body, mind and spirit, and positive energy released from the hands must be fully spread through the body.
Specific Target
Reiki does not require a formal medical license, so practitioners use it in different ways throughout the world. A "local" Reiki treatment concentrates solely on the point of discomfort. With pink eye, the treatment would be concentrated on the eye area for a shorter amount of time than that a full Reiki treatment. In some cases of specific ailments, like pink eye, the practitioner places the hands directly on the affected area to provide healing.
Self Help
Some Reiki practitioners choose to heal themselves. Those who embrace the Reiki philosophy of self improvement and positive energy may take an active part in their own healing, using energy from their own hands as a treatment for pink eye.
